French Ski Resorts with the Best Apres-Ski Scene

When it comes to a skiing holiday, there is a lot more involved than just the slopes. A skiing holiday is also about what happens off the slopes, which is where the après-ski scene comes in. Most good French ski resorts offer a range of other activities and leisure retreats too such as bars, restaurants, and discos. In this article, we explore three French Ski Resorts and look at what they offer skiers when the day’s skiing is complete.

Meribel is one of the most popular ski resorts in France. Located in the heart of the Trois Vallees, Meribel offers access to some 600 km of pistes, catering to novice, intermediate, and advanced skiers throughout the year. However, after dark is when Meribel comes to life, with visitors flocking from their chalet accommodation to the local bars and restaurants.

Meribel offers a range of dining options which include coffee shops for snacks, right through to fine dining establishments. Le Taverne is a lively restaurant-come-bar that offers an extensive yet simple menu catering to most tastes. Chez Kiki is renowned for offering beautifully cooked steaks, whilst Evolution offers international cuisine in a relaxed atmosphere.

As well as restaurants, there is also a range of bars, including both Cactus Café and Jacks, which show live sporting events such as football, motor racing, and rugby, amongst others. English-run Le Pub and Scots have fully stocked bars offering beers, wines, and spirits, whilst Le Rond Point has a wonderful terrace.

Chamonix:

Chamonix is present in the Mont Blanc region of France. And offers an abundance of ski slopes to suit every skill level. When the skiing is over for the day, Chamonix offers a selection of bars and restaurants to help you unwind and relax. For those looking for local, traditional cuisine, try Le Chaudron, La Bergerie, or Le National. Munchie offers a range of Thai dishes as well as European fusion whilst fresh sushi can be found at Satsuki.

The resort offers a range of bars, too, including French, English and Swedish-themed ones. Popular Chambre Neuf is located by the train station and fills up around happy hour. It also offers live sporting events on the big screen and regular live bands. Micro Brewery de Chamonix is also very popular with skiers and boasts beers that have been brewed on the premises. If you’re looking for somewhere a little quieter, the Lapin Agile is a cozy wine bar popular with couples.

Les Gets

Portes du Soleil is one of the world’s largest ski areas and is, therefore, highly popular with skiers of all nationalities. Les Gets is just one of the many resorts in this area, and as with the other ski resorts, when the day’s skiing is complete, people flock to the resorts’ bars and restaurants. These include the Canadian Bear Bar, which is spacious, light, and airy. The Irish Bar has a more romantic atmosphere and is ideal for couples looking for a more intimate hang out whilst the Bush Bar is also quaint.

The Apres-ski scene at these ski resorts, and the rest in France, each has a different atmosphere. So, by visiting a few, you will easily be able to gauge which suits your holiday lifestyle.
